Peter Murphy

Attorney at Law

Peter B. Murphy is a native of New York and the youngest of seven children. He attended public schools there and earned scholarships to Canisius College, in Buffalo, New York, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science and Communication in 1994.

Peter earned his Juris Doctor in 1997 from Washington & Lee University Law School, in Lexington, Virginia. Immediately after law school, he moved to Chattanooga where he has represented disabled people in claims for Social Security Disability benefits ever since.

"I’m like a river guide; you wouldn’t go down a whitewater river without a guide if you’ve never done it before.”

Peter is admitted to practice law in both Tennessee and North Carolina, but because of the Federal nature of Social Security, he can represent people in their Social Security Disability or SSI claims in any State.

When asked why he enjoys representing people in these claims Mr. Murphy said, “I once described what I do to a minister, toward the end of the explanation, he said; ‘so it’s really more like a ministry.’ I thought about that, and decided he was right. This work is far more rewarding than any other legal work that I’ve done for businesses or corporations.”
