Nora McCarthy

Of Counsel

Nora is a 1981 graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She graduated in 1978, cum laude, from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1981 and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court (E.D. of Tennessee) and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Tennessee and Chattanooga Bar Associations, the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) and served as past president of the Tennessee Lawyer’s Association for Women.

She is a founding member of the Justices Ray L. Brock, Jr.—Robert E. Cooper Inn of Court, Chattanooga, Tennessee, serving as its Treasurer for three years. She has been active as a member of the Chattanooga Bar Association.

In 2017, Nora was inducted as a member of the Chattanooga Bar Foundation. In 2018, she received the Harry Weill Zealous Practice of Law award from the Chattanooga Bar Association.

Nora has practiced law in Chattanooga for 38 years, the last 19 of which were focused on Social Security disability law. She explains that the disability practice has been the most rewarding by far because she has had the opportunity to help so many people when they most needed a helping hand.

A former private pilot and former Scuba instructor, Nora enjoys travel and adventure. In 2019, she set off to explore the United States in a recreational vehicle with her husband Rob and their cats.

Nora is now “of counsel” to the law firm and encourages all of her former clients to direct their friends and family to Peter Murphy for excellent disability representation.
