Legal Assistants: The Role Played During Your Claim
Oct. 29, 2025
During your claim process, not only will you have the aid of an attorney, but upon hiring our firm to represent you, a legal assistant will be assigned to your case. With a plethora of experience and knowledge, your legal assistant will be routinely checking in with you regarding your ongoing claim status and are available for any questions that you may have during this process.
Getting Your Claim Started
Upon assignment, your legal assistant will open your file and begin the administrative work for your case, they will send you a form to get you ready for your application.
The legal assistant will reach out to you and explain the next steps, specific to your situation. If you are starting a new claim with us, our legal assistants will schedule a phone appointment with Social Security and make you aware of the time and date, as well as ensuring you are properly prepared for your call.
If you have decided to go forward with our office and you are in the middle of a claim or got a recent denial, your legal assistant will explain what needs to be done next, whether that be filing the appeal to continue your claim, or working on your ongoing claim.
Throughout Your Claim
Make sure you maintain current phone numbers and addresses with our office. If you drop out of communication with us there is very little we can do to help you.
While your claim is awaiting a decision, your legal assistant will check in with you to provide a status update every 3-4 weeks, unless there is a pressing update. Additionally, during these check in periods, the legal assistant will also make sure your file is staying updated with any medical treatment you have received.
Medical evidence is one of the ways Social Security determines your eligibility for SSDI or SSI benefits. Due to this, ensuring that both your file and Social Security are up-to-date with your any doctor appointments, physical therapy, urgent care visits or emergency room stays is the best way for our office to maintain your claim.
Client Expectations
As a client, it is essential that outside of your legal assistant reaching out to you, that you are also reaching out with any medical updates and making sure you comply with any reasonable requests from Social Security or our office.
Social Security will routinely send out questionnaires or other forms that will need to be filled out, pertaining to your claim. Quickly fill out any of those forms and inform your legal assistant if you are having any difficulty or confusion with the forms, they are there to help!
Most of our clients develop a very good working relationship with their legal assistant and frequently call them out by name for praise at the end of their claim. Let us start to help you today by reaching out for help with your SSI and SSDI questions!
